Check out our favorite Costa Rica honeymoon hot spots guaranteed to keep your honeymoon sizzlin’.
Arenal Volcano
Tropical adventure, steamy hot springs, and top-rated hotels are the main draws to Arenal for romantics. And the Arenal Volcano, naturally. Trek all around Arenal on hanging bridges or catch rainforest canopy views on a zip line adventure. Then, let off some of the post-wedding steam in the soothing Arenal hot springs. Some of the best hotels in the country can be found in the region surrounding Arenal Volcano. A couple of our favorites for honeymooners are the Arenal Nayara and Nayara Springs sister properties, recently added to Conde Nast’s list of Top 100 Hotels in the World. Just plan early, they’re a hot commodity.
Guanacaste
Some downtime is a must after all that wedding hype, and Guanacaste is the spot for some well-deserved beach bliss. Guanacaste is littered with beach resorts of all shapes and sizes, but the luxurious hotels on the Papagayo Peninsula are a personal favorite. Think of Papagayo as the Gold Coast of Costa Rica. Surprise, I like being spoiled. And considering this is your honeymoon, so should you. But don’t be intimidated by prices. Traveling in the rainy season can help you stick to your budget. And my Papagayo resort crush? The Andaz Resort.
Osa Peninsula
Disconnect and decompress. The Osa Peninsula is a wild and carefree paradise away from the hustle and bustle of the busy world. This is barefoot luxury at its finest. Osa is so secluded that you’ll need to take a domestic flight in. From there, you may even boat down jungle mangroves to reach your hotel. So if you’re looking for a truly unique experience complete with ocean views, secluded beaches, and untouched rainforest, Osa is your golden ticket. Lapa Rios is a premier eco-lodge located on a private nature reserve in a postcard-perfect setting that we highly recommend for honeymooners.
South Pacific
The South Pacific Coast near Uvita and Dominical is an underrated natural wonderland. If you’re looking to get away and in touch with your natural surroundings, prepare to be amazed. Pack a picnic and explore the string of beaches that make up Ballena Marine National Park on horseback. Naturally, you’ll also need to check out the whale’s tale at Playa Uvita. Or schedule a visit to some of the stunning hidden waterfalls in the area. We recommend staying at the Kura Design Villas, an adults-only luxury boutique hotel perfect for couples
Pacuare River
The Pacuare River is the rafting capital of Costa Rica and arguably a top contestant for the world’s best white water rafting destinations. This is the perfect escape for an adventurous twosome. Tropical Rivers Lodge and Pacuare Lodge are our favorite Pacuare River eco lodges. The ever-popular Canopy Honeymoon Suite at Pacuare Lodge is an idyllic rainforest bungalow complete with a plunge pool and private suspension bridge. The new Jaguar Villa and Linda Vista Honeymoon Suite at Pacuare Lodge are also a sure bet.
Cloud Forest
If you have an affinity for culture and cuisine, the cloud forest is your spot. El Silencio Lodge, the only Relais & Chateaux hotel in Central America, is a culinary highlight focusing on sustainable, delicious cuisine in an intimate setting. The Peace Lodge at La Paz Waterfall Gardens is another cozy escape in the cloud forest. The lodge is a luxury cabin style hideaway with an oversized stone fireplace and elaborate waterfall showers. Step out onto your private balcony for a morning cup of coffee and stunning Poas Volcano views. Don’t be surprised if hummingbirds from the hummingbird garden below pay you a visit. Talk about a wonderland. Plus, wildlife enthusiasts will get their fill. The lodge is located on the grounds of the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a nature park with a waterfall trail and a variety of wildlife exhibits.
