Can I hike to the crater of the Arenal Volcano?

It is not currently possible to reach the top of the volcano to see the crater. The journey is grueling and incredibly steep and would take several hours. Aside from safety concerns, the volcano is not currently active and thus most hikes take place around its lush base. For the best shot at seeing a volcano crater, we recommend visiting Poas Volcano near San Jose.
