What is the history of Puerto Jimenez?

The Osa Peninsula has been inhabited by humans for at least 6,000 years, but the more recent post-colonization history of Puerto Jimenez has been marked by both farming and gold mining. Its prime location on the Golfo Dulce made it an outpost for farmers and miners in the early 1900s, but in more recent decades after the establishment of Corcovado National Park has turned the sleepy town into a hub for eco-tourism.
