Jicaro Sustainable Food
Sustainable dining is a priority at Jiacaro Island Ecolodge. Even though the lodge is secluded on an island, they serve a wide variety of options including fresh fish, local chicken and beef, and local vegetables. Every morning, guests can order their dinner in advance in an effort to reduce waste and allow chefs the opportunity to buy the freshest ingredients at the market. Jicaro participates in a Dock to Dish program, the first freshwater fishing program in the world. Guests can even go out with the local fisherman and learn how they cast their nets and bring in the day’s catch.
Activities at Jicaro Island Ecolodge
Jicaro Island Ecolodge is the perfect base for exploring the colorful city of Granada, the oldest colonial city in the Americas, while removed from the crowds of the city. Guests can also discover Lake Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central America which is surrounded by volcanoes and centuries-old artisan fishing communities living on the surrounding islands.
Guests also have a range of activities to choose from like zip-lining, hiking, swimming, and yoga. The use of kayaks and stand up paddleboards is complimentary. Thrill-seekers will love ziplining above the forest canopy and discovering hidden beaches via kayak. Nature-lovers will delight over the hiking, birdwatching, and a variety of other tours. There are also a number of cultural and historical tours available. Jicaro Island Ecolodge also offers complimentary yoga from Monday to Saturday starting at 8:00 am regardless of the season on the yoga sun deck with views overlooking the lake and Mombacho Volcano. Private yoga classes are available at an additional cost. After your morning yoga class, take a dip in the refreshing waters of Lake Nicaragua and swim out to the diving platform to sun yourself. Arrange for a private dinner on the diving platform in the evening and enjoy a beautiful romantic sunset.
Jicaro has a saltwater infinity pool with swim-up bar for guests to relax and enjoy the fresh island air. Try some fun locally-inspired cocktails at the bar. The main dining area overlooks the lake and is a highlight of your stay with a variety of local dishes which can be catered to special dietary preferences. The lodge also has a spa on-site that does facials and massages. Don’t miss the mirador observation deck or early morning bird and wildlife watching!
Jicaro Island Ecolodge Rooms
There are nine identical two-story treehouse casitas for guests on the island, all of which have lake views and plenty of privacy. Each casita has a private bedroom with King-size bed on the second floor, and a spacious living area and outside deck perched over the water on the first floor with a hammock. Enjoy coffee service in the morning while overlooking the peaceful tranquility of Lake Nicaragua.
The casitas are interconnected by volcanic stone pathways native to the islands in an effort to minimize environmental impact. The casitas and furnishings were also constructed with reclaimed wood which has been Rainforest Alliance certified.
All casitas are equipped with ceiling fans, eco-friendly amenities, mosquito netting, and large windows and doors to help with ventilation. There is no air-conditioning in the casitas.
