Our 9-night Costa Rica Christmas Family Adventure vacation package is the perfect winter getaway. Experience downtown San Jose, the jungle canals of Tortuguero National Park, a zipline and aerial tram overlooking Arenal Volcano, and the beaches and waterfalls of Guanacaste.


Day 1
Dec 21: Arrive San Jose, Costa Rica
Upon arrival in San Jose, Costa Rica you will be driven to the Gran Hotel in the heart of downtown San Jose. The Gran Hotel is conveniently located on the pedestrian boulevard Avenida Central just steps from cafes, shops, museums, and other top attractions and overlooks the famous National Theatre. Charming colonial decor and modern technology meet in the Gran Hotel's revamped stylish guest rooms.
Day 2
Dec 22: Transfer to Mawamba Lodge, Tortuguero
Today, you will be met and driven approximately 3 hours (with a stop for breakfast) to a private dock for a scenic 1-hour boat ride to Tortuguero National Park on the North Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica. Arrive at Mawamba Lodge, located on a sand bar between the primitive beaches of the Caribbean and Tortuguero Lagoon. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at the poolside restaurant. Take the opportunity to discover Tortuguero village this afternoon with your guide.
Day 3
Dec 23: Explore Tortuguero National Park
This morning, you'll have the option to take a guided boat tour through Tortuguero canals (available at an additional cost at check-in). Experience the awakening hours of the jungle. A guide will describe the complete biodiversity of the region and point out wildlife as you cruise along. Return to the lodge for breakfast following your tour.

Then, join your guide on a visit to Mawamba Park, a small on-site exhibit showcases butterfly and frog farms, a biodigester, and resident iguanas that roam the gardens.

This afternoon, discover the canals by boat observing the flora and fauna. Look for shorebirds, lizards, monkeys, caimans, toucans, and sloths. Evening turtle tours are available at an additional cost in season (July to October). Overnight Mawamba Lodge.
Day 4
Dec 24: Transfer to Hotel Mountain Paradise, Arenal
This morning, enjoy breakfast before being driven to the local airstrip for a short flight to the Arenal Volcano region for overnight at Hotel Mountain Paradise. This charming hotel is surrounded by gardens and features some of the most beautiful views of Arenal Volcano.
Day 5
Dec 25: Aerial Tram, Zipline, & Walk with Lunch
Begin your adventure on the Sky Walk, a guided tour perfect for nature-lovers. Along the 2.25-mile trail (3.6 km), you will observe 3 waterfalls and a variety of beautiful birds. The trail walk will take approximately 3 hours. Next, experience the Sky Aerial Tram for a bird's eye view of Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal, and the Tilaran Mountain Range. Finally, take off on the Sky Trek Zipline Tour, which allows you to observe the rainforest and landscape from above over 8 cross-sectional cables with a maximum height of 660 feet. Enjoy lunch before returning to Hotel Mountain Paradise for overnight.
Day 6
Dec 26: Transfer to Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort, Tamarindo
Today you will be picked up and driven approximately 3 1/3 hours to Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort in Guanacaste. Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort is the only hotel located directly on the white sand beaches of Tamarindo.
Day 7
Dec 27: Morning Free, Sunset Catamaran Sail & Snorkel
Your luxury catamaran departs from Flamingo Bay Marina. Set sail toward some of the most isolated beaches and snorkel locations in Costa Rica. Look for whales (in season), dolphins, pufferfish, sea turtles, and more marine life. Guests can also kayak and fish. Drop anchor and explore an underwater world as the chef cooks up a delicious buffet. Overnight Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort.
Day 8
Dec 28: Rincón de la Via Waterfalls Hike
Begin the excursion with a 1-hour scenic hike to Victoria Waterfall - an impressive waterfall with a 25-meter drop down to the Rio Negro. Enjoy a swim in the crystal-clear waters at the base of the waterfall. Then, continue on through the forest while enjoying views of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, the forest, volcanic activity, and animals. There are 300 bird species living in the park as well as peccaries, armadillos, iguanas, monkeys, coatis, and more. Next, visit the Las Chorreras twin falls which tumble into a spectacular blue pool at the base of the falls. Feel free to take a dip here as well to cool off. Next, visit La Oropendola Waterfall which falls 35-meters into the lush canyon of the White River. Finally, visit the Rio Negro Waterfall which is born from a source of thermal water. Day 9
Dec 29: Tamarindo Free Day
Take a surf lesson, discover Tamarindo town or explore the white sand beaches of Tamarindo. Scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, and more - there are a myriad of ways to discover the lively beach town Tamarindo. Overnight Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort.
Day 10
Dec 20: Depart Liberia, Costa Rica
Today you will be met and transferred by ground approximately 1 hour to Liberia International Airport for your return flight home.

Holiday season supplements apply for Christmas, New Years, Presidents Day, and Easter travel dates. Green season specials and/or lower rates may apply for May to November travel dates.

All itineraries are land only and international airfare is quoted separately. Itinerary adjustments may be necessary depending on your international flight schedule. For example a late arrival will usually require a night near the airport in San Jose.
