Dec 26: Arrive Lost Iguana Resort, Arenal
Upon arrival in San Jose, Costa Rica you will be picked up and driven approximately 3 hours to Arenal Volcano for overnight at Lost Iguana Resort, a 100-acre rainforest property with dramatic views of Arenal Volcano and miles of trails for exploration.
Dec 27: Hanging Bridges & Tabacon Hot Springs
Discover a private reserve home to a variety of flora and fauna. Explore the forest from hanging bridges overlooking the canopy and along lush trails with beautiful views of Arenal Volcano. There are eight fixed and six hanging bridges built with the latest techniques. Then, transfer to Tabacon Hot Springs for a revitalizing soak. The hot spring gardens have several pools at varying temperatures heated the volcano as well as a spa and restaurant. Enjoy a meal before returning to the Lost Iguana Resort for overnight.
Dec 28: Pure Nature Safari Float
Float peacefully down the Frio River. The boat has no motor so that animals like sloths, monkeys, iguanas, turtles, caimans, and birds can be more easily be spotted. A naturalist guide will point out the treasures, features, and relationships of the ecosystem. Following the float, enjoy homemade snacks at a local family farm and practice your Spanish! Dec 29: Transfer to El Silencio Lodge, Bajos del Toro
Today you will be picked up and driven approximately 2 1/2 hours to El Silencio Lodge for overnight. Nestled among Costa Rica's cloud forests, El Silencio is an eco-friendly sanctuary with 500 private acres of cloud forest surrounded by gently flowing creeks and hidden waterfalls.
Dec 30: Bajos del Toro Waterfall Hike; Cultural Tour
This morning, discover Bajos del Toro Waterfall, a staggering 400-foot waterfall dropping into a multi-colored canyon where shades of red clay blend with green moss and vegetation. A winding trail brings you to the bottom of the waterfall.
This afternoon, experience the Los Bajos Cultural Tour. Los Bajos del Toro Amarillo is a thriving rural community with rich traditions. Visit the orchid collection of Don Martin Porras to marvel at the beauty of over 400 orchid species from shoe-shaped specimens to miniature varieties of Lilliputian beauty. Then, visit the local school, church, and soccer field as your guide describes the culture and history of the town. Last stop, Dona Olga's Pulperia, where you will learn to make tortillas and can buy local traditional pastries. Overnight El Silencio Lodge & Spa.
