1. Don’t try to see too much
Two destinations often work better than three (destination and duration dependent). Long drives and frequent hotel changes exhaust kids quickly, especially younger ones.
2. Choose hotels for families, not adults
A stunning lodge is not always a comfortable family base. Room layout, walking distances, dining flexibility, and noise all matter more with kids.
3. Don’t underestimate logistics
Transfers, boat crossings, early starts, and connection timing are where trips succeed or unravel.
4. Check that activities are kid-friendly
Not all zip lines, hikes, or wildlife tours are created equal. Some are magical for kids. Others feel long and tedious. Additionally, there are some age restrictions.
5. Don’t plan too tightly
Families need breathing room. The best trips leave space for the pool, wildlife surprises, and downtime. And honestly, sometimes it’s hard to know if you’ve booked your timings right, unless you’re talking to someone who’s done it before.
