Lodges are available throughout Costa Rica particularly in the cloud forest or off the beaten path destinations such as Tortuguero or the Osa Peninsula.

While lodges are plentiful throughout Costa Rica, some destinations especially excel at the lodge experience perhaps because of their proximity to national parks and natural attractions.

Cloud Forest Lodges of the Central Highlands

There is something quaint and romantic about the cloud forest lodges of the Central Highlands. These cool retreats are often enveloped in a blanket of mist with an ecosystem unique to their climate. Many of the cloud forest lodges in our collection have their own on-site attractions with trails and lookout points. Monteverde Lodge features its own butterfly garden. El Silencio Lodge is a Relais and Chateaux property with high-end dining, a spa, and activities. The Peace Lodge is well-known for its expansive La Paz Waterfall Gardens which features a series of waterfalls and rescued wildlife observatories.

Jungle Lodges of Tortuguero

Tortuguero National Park offers a unique lodge experience ideal for the adventurous nature lover. The destination itself is a labyrinth of jungle canals accessible by boat. These jungle lodges are especially sought after during turtle nesting season when four species of sea turtles (green, leatherback, hawksbill, and loggerhead) come to Tortuguero Beach to lay their eggs.

Rainforest Lodges of the Osa Peninsula

The Osa Peninsula has the most remote rainforests in Costa Rica. There are two main towns that serve as launching off points to the peninsula’s lodges: Drake Bay and Puerto Jimenez. The most popular national park in the area, Corcovado National Park, is accessible from both areas. To reach these remote eco lodges, guests will typically need to travel by domestic flight or boat. Talk with a Costa Rica Expert about logistics to your lodge of choice. One of the less frequently visited parks, Piedras Blancas National Park, is accessible from Puerto Jimenez. The park is located on the opposite side of the Golfo Dulce from Puerto Jimenez. Playa Cativo Lodge and Playa Nicuesa Lodge are both fantastic rainforest experiences backing right up to the national park!

Rafting Lodges on the Pacuare River

The Pacuare River has two world-class adventure lodges offering a slightly different experience: Rios Tropicales Lodges and the Pacuare Lodge. Half of the adventure at these lodges is just getting there. Take an unforgettable whitewater rafting adventure to reach your lodge in the middle of the jungle. The lodges are an experience in themselves. In a setting far removed from cities and towns, the lodges encourage you to reconnect with nature with a series of trails and a multitude of tours like horseback riding and canopy zip-line.
