This route is for those who love a more challenging hike. The Las Tumbas trail presents rocky terrain, a few steep climbs, and a fascinating canvas of eroded volcanic rock formations. You’ll begin in the lush forest canyon, but as you climb higher, you’ll emerge from the trees and onto the rocky grounds of Rio Perdido’s dwarf forest —an other-worldly landscape. Note: This hike is approximately 2 hours; shorter hikes are also available upon request).

Guaro Cocktail Class + Free Time

Today, enjoy a special on-site experience with a resident mixologist to learn about Costa Rica’s signature cocktail ingredient: Guaro. Produced in different regions in Latin America. Guaro means “sugar cane liquor” and comes from the Quechua language. During this session, you’ll learn about the characteristics of Guaro and what it makes it so drinkable. You will sample five different cocktails and prepare your own, with different mixes, using tropical fruits, spices, and other ingredients.

The remainder of the day is free to explore the thermal river, experience a mud bath, stretch out of a cliffside yoga platform, hike on the on-site trails using the resort’s GPS-generated maps, visit the spa, or book additional activities.
