OVERVIEW

Our Hot Springs Hideaway vacation is the perfect mix of adventure and indulgence. After an energetic start with whitewater rafting, spend the next two days appreciating the glory of nature around Arenal Volcano. Hike Arenal Volcano and discover the forest surrounding the volcano on hanging bridges before traveling to Tamarindo Beach on the Pacific Coast. Continue the adventure with a coastal kayak and snorkeling excursion. Finally, settle in with the sand between your toes before heading back to the real world!

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1
Arrive Hotel Grano De Oro, San Jose
Upon arrival in San Jose, Costa Rica transfer to Hotel Grano de Oro for overnight. Once a Victorian mansion, this hotel features one of San Jose's finest restaurants and a stunning rooftop garden terrace with lounging chairs and two spa tubs. The ambiance and warmth of a private home comes through with period photographs, original artwork, and colorful tropical flora.
Day 2
Pacuare River Whitewater Rafting: Class III-IV // Transfer to Tabacon Thermal Resort, Arenal
Early morning pick-up from hotel and transfer to the put-in point for breakfast and a brief safety talk before launching on an exhilarating 16-mile adventure! The Pacuare offers some of the best whitewater in the world – a tropical river that combines a beautiful ride deep into the virgin rainforest with pounding rapids. Paddle exciting rapids before take-out where you will have a chance to dry off.


After the tour, you will transfer to the Tabacon Grand Spa & Thermal Resort. A traveler's favorite, Tabacon combines stunning views of the Arenal Volcano with an abundance of activities and unbeatable natural cool and hot springs. Besides having one of the world's best spas, this luxury resort has been repeatedly recognized for its amazing service and an atmosphere that can only be described as "paradise."

Day 3
Arenal Volcano National Park Adventure
Your day begins with a boat ride on the calm waters of Lake Arenal. Enjoy views of Arenal Volcano as you sail on the waters of Costa Rica's biggest hydroelectric dam. Arrive at the entrance of "La Peninsula" and hike a path through the forest while keeping an eye out for wildlife among the trees. After a few minutes, you'll reach a lookout on the top of a tower where you'll have a unique view of the surrounding area. Then, hike the areas once destroyed by volcanic activity that is now undergoing a process of regeneration. Overnight Tabacón Grand Spa & Thermal Resort.
Day 4
Arenal Hanging Bridges & La Fortuna Waterfall Hike
Discover the unique ecosystem of the Arenal region from forested trails and hanging bridges lead by a professional naturalist guide. Discover wildlife up close and explore the interrelationship of the primary and secondary rainforest. Experience eight fixed bridges and six hanging bridges with thrilling vantage points from which to observe the forest canopy. Then, enjoy lunch.

After lunch, head to the La Fortuna Waterfall. View the waterfall from the observation point before heading down the paved stairs about 300 meters to the base of the waterfall on a steep pathway. At the bottom, take photos and go for a swim if you'd like. Swimming is allowed in the river, but not near the waterfall. Overnight Tabacón Grand Spa & Thermal Resort.
Day 5
Transfer to Hotel Capitan Suizo, Tamarindo Beach
Today, transfer about 4 hours to Tamarindo, Guanacaste on the North Pacific Coast. Arrive at Hotel Capitan Suizo for overnight. This luxury hotel combines upscale accommodations and breathtaking coastal views with Tamarindo adventure. Enjoy gorgeous ocean sunsets every night from your balcony or along Tamarindo Beach.
Day 6
Tamarindo Mangrove Boat Tour
This morning, boat a 45-foot boat and cruise the calm estuary situated between Tamarindo and Playa Grande. Along the way, look for birds, crocodiles, iguanas, and monkeys in their natural paradise. The estuary is a crucial ecosystem in Costa Rica with a wealth of biodiveristy. Overnight Hotel Capitan Suizo.
Day 7
Tamarindo Free Day
The day is yours to explore Tamarindo Beach and the lively town of Tamarindo. Overnight Hotel Capitan Suizo.
Day 8
Tamarindo Free Day
Tamarindo is one of the best places to surf in Costa Rica. Rent a surfboard or simply relax by the sea. Overnight Hotel Capitan Suizo.
Day 9
Depart Liberia, Costa Rica
This morning transfer approximately 1 hour to the Liberia international airport for your return flight home.

All itineraries are land only and international airfare is quoted separately. Itinerary adjustments may be necessary depending on your international flight schedule. For example a late arrival will usually require a night near the airport in San Jose.
