DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1
Arrive San Jose, Costa Rica
Upon your morning or midday arrival in San Jose, Costa Rica transfer to Hotel Grano de Oro for overnight. Found on a quiet street in the middle of bustling San Jose, Hotel Grano de Oro is an oasis set amid the city. Once a private home, this converted mansion offers all the same warmth and ambiance with period photographs and colorful tropical flora. Hotel Grano de Oro also features one of the city's best restaurants.
Day 2
Pacuare River 2 Night Trip: Class III-IV Rapids
You'll depart San José early in the morning, stopping for breakfast. At the river, guides will prepare equipment and give you safety and paddle instructions before you're off down the Pacuare gorge. Enjoy lunch on the riverbank, and your guides will show you to a stunning jungle waterfall and pool where you can swim. Before you know it, you'll arrive at the Ríos Tropicales Lodge where you can spend the afternoon relaxing, hiking or soaking in the waterfalls and pools. Enjoy happy hour and dinner before falling asleep to the sounds of the river.
Day 3
Pacuare River Rafting
Enjoy rainforest canopy tours, hikes, relaxation and more. This day is designed to enjoy the lodge and its natural surroundings. Enjoy a unique opportunity to experience the wonders of the zip line course (at an additional cost). Four distinctive platforms blend in seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Day 4
Pacuare River; Transfer to Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge
After breakfast you'll prepare to paddle down the Pacuare gorge. A snack stop by the riverside lets you explore more waterfalls and natural waterslides. An adrenaline-packed afternoon running rapids will have you cheering. Hot lunch will be served at the Ríos Tropicales Operations Center. This afternoon transfer approximately 3 hours to Almonds & Corals Hotel, located in the heart of the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. This Costa Rica hotel is a relaxing place full of the touch of Nature. The hotel consists of tent-style bungalows that lie under giant trees in a forest so dense that sunlight hardly touches the ground. Follow a trail to one of the most pristine beaches in the area.
Day 5
Gandoca Manzanillo Free Day
Today, consider a guided tour of the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. This trail through the jungle is teeming with monkeys, parrots, sloth and snakes. Right in the middle of the rainforest there is a bungalow with massage table and Jacuzzi available to all guests. Inside the reception there is a souvenir shop where you will find local handcrafts in wood and clay and handmade jewelry, among many other original souvenirs. Other optional activities include kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snorkeling and diving, and tours into Cahuita and Puerto Vargas National as well as the Indian ranch of Volio. Day 6
Gandoca Manzanillo Free Day
Almonds & Corals features an amazing range of experiences - it's one part wildlife safari-camp, one part sustainable eco-lodge, and one part beach resort. Spend time relaxing at a spa, or in the Jacuzzi. Visit the beach for a relaxing day of sun & sand. Or, venture into the Wildlife Refuge for wildlife or bird watching. Overnight Almonds & Corals Hotel.
Day 7
Transfer to Tortuguero National Park
This morning transfer approximately 2 hours to the private dock for a 2-hour boat ride to Tortuguero on the Northern Caribbean Coast. Arrive at the Mawamba Lodge for overnight. This ideal hideaway for nature lovers is nestled in the forest, and the perfect place to discover the wonders of the Tortuguero National Park. This afternoon is a great opportunity to visit the village of Tortuguero along with your guide. Overnight Mawamba Lodge.
Day 8
Tortuguero National Park
This morning you will have the option of taking an early morning boat tour through the Tortuguero Canals (available at an additional cost upon arrival). After breakfast your guide will take you on a visit to the “Mawamba Park” which includes butterfly farms, a frog farm and garden, a bio-digester, and lush gardens. In the afternoon tour the canals by boat with local guides to observe the flora and fauna of the area. Look for lizards, toucans, monkeys, caimans, and sloth. Optional evening turtle tours are available at additional cost (turtle nesting is from July to October). Overnight Mawamba Lodge.
Day 9
Depart San Jose, Costa Rica
This morning enjoy breakfast at the lodge and then transfer to the local airstrip for a flight back to San Jose to connect to your international flight home.

Holiday season supplements apply for Christmas, New Years, Presidents Day, and Easter travel dates. Green season specials and/or lower rates may apply for May to November travel dates.

All itineraries are land only and international airfare is quoted separately. Itinerary adjustments may be necessary depending on your international flight schedule. For example a late arrival will usually require a night near the airport in San Jose.
