Maleku Indigenous Cultural Tour

Transfer about an hour to an Indigenous reservation in the Northern Plains of Costa Rica, where three Maleku communities live: El Sol, Tonjibe, and Margarita. Visit the Tonjibe community to meet a local family, who will share how they have adapted their lifestyle while keeping their traditions and cultures alive. The home materials you will see, and the diet and medicines these people use, are against the new environmental government laws. Even so, these hardy people are working to preserve their traditions, such as language, dances, and diet. Visit a traditional house, walk through a graveyard, explore a botanical medicinal garden, and observe the performance of one of their traditional rituals. The tour ends with a typical Maleku lunch, and guests will have the opportunity to look at the handcrafts that the Tonjibe produce.
