Rafting and kayaking trips range from one day tours to multi-day whitewater extravaganza. Many combined adventures available as well.

Costa Rica is a natural for paddlers. With both the Pacific and Caribbean coastlines and extensive inland waterways, the options are almost limitless.

REGIONS: San Jose is the base for Costa Rica’s legendary Pacuare River and Reventazon River. Additional tourist destinations with rafting access are Quepos/Manuel Antonio and the Arenal Volcano area.

      ONE DAY TOURS:

      SARAPIQUI RIVER (Class I-II) - Float trip through the lowland wet forest of the Atlantic slope. This trip is ideal for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Accessible from Arenal Volcano or San Jose.

      SARAPIQUI RIVER (Class III) - Float trip through the lowland wet forest of the Atlantic slope. This trip is ideal for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Accessible from Arenal Volcano or San Jose. Minimum age to participate is 12 years old. Breakfast and lunch included.

      WHITEWATER RAFTING - Reventazón RIVER (Class II -III Rapids) – This trip starts with a three hour scenic drive from San Jose to put in point. Stop along the way for breakfast at a typical Costa Rican restaurant. After a brief safety talk and instruction period, we begin the nine mile run starting with fairly easy rapids and facing the most challenging water just before the take out point. Minimum age to participate is 12 years old. Breakfast and lunch included. This is an ideal trip for beginners.

      WHITEWATER RAFTING - PACUARE RIVER (Class III -IV Rapids) – The Pacuare River is one of the top five rafting rivers in the world for its scenery and rapids. This quintessential tropical river is a trip of pure magic, unsurpassed beauty, wildlife and exhilarating rapids. Raft adrenaline-packed rapids like Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montanas 14 miles deep in the heart of densely vegetated gorges, past gushing waterfalls and serene pools, in one of Costa Rica's most impressive primary rainforests. Breakfast and lunch included. Minimum age to participate is 14 years old.

      PASCUA SECTION OF THE Reventazón RIVER (Class IV) - If you're ready for BIG water, the Pascua section of the Reventazón will challenge the most adventurous spirit with rapids by the names of "North Sea," "Horrendito" and "Indigestion." Non-stop thrills and action await you as you plunge through twists, turns and drops down 15 miles of intense, challenging rapids. This is an exciting, scenic trip for rafters with experience. All participants must be in good physical condition and ready to remain active all day.

      Penas Blancas Safari Float (Class i-II) – This is a great family adventure! Take pictures of the rainforest canopy teeming with monkeys or catch a closer look at a tropical bird through your binoculars while you float in an oar boat where an expert naturalist will paddle and you relax like the iguanas nearby sunning themselves on the branches. Accessible from Arenal Volcano area.

      Naranjo River Whitewater Rafting (Class iii-IV) - On this half day white water adventure you will encounter challenging rapids surrounded by a pristine jungle. If you are a first time or experienced paddler looking for the excitement of big waves, hydraulics, and stunning scenery, then this trip is for you! Minimum age to participate is 14 years old. Accessible from Quepos/Manuel Antonio area.

      Savegre Whitewater Rafting (Class III) - Professional guides lead you on one of the most pristine rivers in the country surrounded by impressive views of primary forest. The trip will continue through one of the most remote canyons on the Savegre River passing rapids like “Cinderella” and “Malibu”. Minimum age to participate is 14 years old. Accessible from Quepos/Manuel Antonio area. TORO RIVER Whitewater Rafting (Class IV) – If white water is your passion and you are seeking a new challenge, then this adrenaline packed ride down the Toro River is for you! Continuous rapids, landscaped by lush rainforest walls dripping with waterfalls just give you a flavor of what will be in store for you. This trip is for experienced paddlers. Minimum age to participate is 16 years old. Accessible from Arenal Volcano area.

      MULTI-DAY EXCURSIONS:

      PACUARE RIVER (Class III-IV): Whitewater rafting, 1 Nights/ 2 Days You'll enjoy one of the most amazing rainforest experiences possible - breathtaking beauty far removed from civilization's rush and heart-pounding excitement on one of the top five rafting rivers in the world. On the first day you raft deep in the heart of primary rainforest until you arrive at the Ríos Tropicales Lodge where you can spend the afternoon relaxing, hiking or soaking in our waterfall and pools. Nestled in the jungle on a 1,000-acre private reserve, the lodge offers you all the comforts you need in "Cabecar Indian" style bungalows. Day 2 is designed to enjoy the lodge surroundings. You can choose a variety of hikes - a 4-5 hour hike high into the Pacuare Reserve; a 2-3 hour hike to nearby waterfalls and pools, or short walks near the lodge - or just relax in a hammock and enjoy nature. Minimum age to participate is 14 years old. Accessible from San Jose or Caribbean Slope.

      PACUARE RIVER: Rafting & hiking, 2 Nights/ 3 Days This trip starts off as the Pacuare 2 day trip but on day 3 you'll paddle down the Pacuare gorge past gushing waterfalls, serene pools and pounding rapids. An adrenaline-packed afternoon running rapids like Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montañas and many more, will have you cheering ecstatically. On the return drive to San José, you'll enjoy remarkable views of Braulio Carrillo National Park and Irazú Volcano. Minimum age to participate is 14 years old. Accessible from San Jose or Caribbean Slope.

      Reventazón /PACUARE RIVERS: Whitewater rafting, 3 Nights/ 4 Days. This trip starts off like the Pacuare 2 Night trip with an extra day to raft the Reventazón River. The afternoon will be filled with fun and exhilarating big waves, hydraulics and stunning scenery, This section of the river will provide you with breathtaking views of the Reventazón Valley for an amazing three days of rafting. Minimum age to participate is 14 years old Accessible from San Jose or Caribbean Slope.

      REVENTAZON/PACUARE/PASCUA: Whitewater rafting, 3 Nights/ 4 Days . This trip starts as the Reventazón / Pacuare 3 Night/ 4 Day trip that extends your whitewater pleasure with the final day on the Pascua River. This is a delightful, exciting and scenic trip for rafters with some experience. The drive back to San José is through the Braulio Carrillo National Park, offering tremendous mountain views. This trip is sure to excite even the most experienced paddlers. All participants must be in good physical condition and ready to remain active all day. Minimum age to participate is 14 years old. Accessible from San Jose or Caribbean Slope.

      SAVEGRE RIVER: Whitewater rafting, 1 Nights/ 2 Days. This 2 day adventure will start by running continuous class III and IV rapids on the Division River, the main tributary to the Savegre River, one of the most pristine rivers in the country surrounded by impressive views of primary forest. The trip will continue through one of the most remote canyons on the Savegre River passing rapids like “Cinderella” and “Malibu”. You will raft to Rafiki Safari Lodge where you will spend the night. After a good night rest at Rafiki, the second day begins by running “La Boca del Diablo” a class III rapid that will wake you up!! Continue your descent on the Savegre River running class III and II rapids all the way down to the bridge on the Pacific Coastal Highway, where your transport will be waiting to drive you north to Manuel Antonio. Minimum age to participate is 14 years old. Accessible from Quepos/Manuel Antonio area.
